Take the Stage 2027 Terms & Conditions

Take the Stage is organised and operated by Ignite Theatre Sdn. Bhd., a youth-focused performing arts organisation based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. By participating in the festival, schools agree to the terms set out below.

Definitions

“Festival” refers to Take the Stage 2027.

“Organisers” refers to Ignite Theatre Sdn. Bhd.

“School” refers to the participating educational institution.

“Teacher-in-Charge” refers to the official representative of the school.

1. Eligibility

The Festival is open to officially registered secondary and international schools with students aged 8–16 years old at the time of the festival performance. Eligibility may be verified by proof of school registration.

Each school may enter one production per festival year.

Plays must be selected from the Festival’s approved list of titles.

Only students currently enrolled in the participating school may take part in the production. Staff or teachers are not permitted to perform.

2. Application & Acceptance

Schools must submit an official Festival application form by the stated deadline to be considered for participation.

Participation is subject to approval and confirmation by the Organisers.

Once accepted, schools will receive access to scripts, play selection materials, and a festival information pack.

3. Participation Fee

The participation fee is RM5,000 per school.

An invoice will be issued upon confirmation of participation.

Payment is due within 30 days of invoice date unless otherwise stated.

Payment must be made in full by the stated deadline (as listed on the invoice) to secure your school’s place.

The participation fee is non-refundable, except in cases of event cancellation by the Organisers. Partial refunds will not be issued for withdrawal after the official acceptance date.

4. Play Selection & Performance

Schools will select two preferred plays from the Festival list. Final play allocation will be made by the Organisers to ensure an even distribution across the Festival.

Each performance should not exceed 50 minutes.

Schools are responsible for casting, rehearsals, and preparing their chosen production, as well as supplying all costumes and portable props. Ignite Theatre will provide a basic, shared set of neutral blocks and flats; a full inventory will be provided in the Festival information pack.

Minor language edits or cuts may be made to the script where appropriate (e.g. for age suitability, cultural context, or length), as long as the original meaning and structure of the play remain intact. Schools must submit a log of any edits or cuts made to the script at least four weeks prior to the performance.

Any significant script changes (defined as more than 10% of the script’s total lines or structural changes like character additions/deletions) must be approved by the Organisers in advance.

Ignite Theatre Sdn. Bhd. has secured the rights and royalties for these plays for performance at the Festival only.

If a school wishes to present the production outside of the Festival, it is the school’s responsibility to apply for and secure its own performance rights directly with the rights holder or publisher.

5. Rehearsals & Workshops

Each participating school will receive two 2-hour workshops from the Organisers to support the rehearsal process, hosted at your school.

Workshops will be scheduled in consultation with the participating school's Teacher-in-Charge. Unused or cancelled workshops will not be subject to a refund or reschedule unless the cancellation is made by the Organisers.

Schools are expected to follow the Festival timeline to ensure readiness for the performance.

6. Technical Requirements

Schools are encouraged to provide up to three student technical crew members (Stage Manager, Lighting Operator, and Sound Operator).

The Organisers and the venue team will provide full technical support, equipment, and oversight during the Festival.

Schools must comply with all technical and safety guidelines issued by the Festival.

7. Festival Conduct

This is a non-competitive event. All schools are expected to uphold a collaborative and respectful environment.

Schools agree to abide by the Festival schedule, including technical rehearsals and performance calls.

Any inappropriate behaviour by students or staff may result in removal from the Festival programme. The Organisers reserve the right to issue a formal warning prior to removal, though immediate removal may occur for severe breaches of safety or conduct rules.

8. Media & Publicity

By participating, schools grant permission for photography, videography, and promotional use of their performance and rehearsal images by the Organisers for marketing and archival purposes.

If a school has specific restrictions regarding media use, this must be communicated in writing in advance.

9. Cancellations

If a school withdraws after confirmation, the participation fee will not be refunded.

In the event of cancellation by the Organisers, all fees will be refunded in full.

Any changes to the Festival schedule will be communicated in a timely manner.

10. Health & Safety

All participants must comply with venue health and safety regulations.

Schools are responsible for the supervision and behaviour of their students at all times. Schools must designate a Teacher-in-Charge and an Assistant Teacher-in-Charge who must be present with the students at all times while at the venue.

The Organisers and the venue accept no liability for personal injury, loss, or damage to personal property, whether due to negligence or otherwise, except as required by law. By participating, the school agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Organisers against all claims, actions, or proceedings resulting from the school's participation.

11. Agreement

By submitting an application and confirming participation, your school acknowledges and agrees to the above Terms & Conditions.

Take the Stage is organised and delivered by Ignite Theatre Sdn. Bhd., and these terms are in place to ensure a safe, fair, and professional festival experience for all participants.

12. Force Majeure

The Organisers shall not be liable for any failure or delay in the performance of their obligations under these Terms & Conditions if such failure or delay is caused by events beyond their reasonable control. This includes, but is not limited to, acts of God, natural disasters, war, terrorism, pandemics, epidemics, strikes, lockouts, civil disturbances, government restrictions, venue closures, or other events that make it impossible or impractical to proceed with the Festival as planned.

In the event of a Force Majeure, the Organisers will make reasonable efforts to reschedule, relocate, or adapt the Festival where possible. If the Festival cannot proceed, the Organisers will refund participation fees in full, and no further claims or compensation shall be made by the School.

13. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Malaysia.

Any disputes arising from or related to these Terms & Conditions shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia.

By submitting the application form and/or signing this document, the School agrees to the Terms & Conditions of Take the Stage 2027 as outlined above.
