Take the Stage is a non-competitive youth theatre festival where schools perform a published play on a fully equipped professional stage. It’s designed to give students real-world theatre experience while celebrating creativity, collaboration, and storytelling.

Take The Stage is open to young performers aged 8 and above. Each participating school enters one production and may select and cast students according to their own needs and capacity, allowing schools to create a company that best suits their students and chosen production.

We provide a curated list of four published plays selected for their age appropriateness, ensemble opportunities, and festival-friendly length (around 45 minutes). Schools list their top two choices, and Ignite confirms final allocations to keep the festival balanced.

The RM5,000 school fee covers:

• Two 2-hour rehearsal workshops with Ignite Theatre

• Performance rights and royalties

• Festival Support Booklet with rehearsal and technical guidance

• Festival T-shirts for your cast

• A performance slot on a professional stage

• Full technical and venue support

Yes. We encourage each school to involve up to three student technical crew members in their production: a Stage Manager, Lighting Operator, and Sound Operator. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain hands-on backstage experience in a professional theatre environment.

No. This is a celebratory, non-competitive event. There are no awards, rankings, or scoring. The focus is on performance, collaboration, and shared storytelling.

Yes, absolutely! However, your school will need to obtain the appropriate performance licence for the play before staging it again.

Yes. Schools are responsible for bringing their own props, costumes, and simple set pieces. The festival will provide access to basic lighting, sound, and a backstage area for setup.

Yes, teachers can guide and support their students, but we encourage student-led creativity wherever possible. This helps young performers take ownership of the process and develop leadership and collaboration skills.
